Lads and beer-drinking ladettes

What are you having beer-wise every Friday for the rest of your life (I won’t make the hypothetical scenario cruel and subjugate anyone to just one beer for the rest of their lives, just Fridays) if you had to pick one?

rusticgal 19-06-2023 05:41 PM

Don’t drink beer…

I do love a good San Miguel. The only thing is that I prefer it to be on-tap. The canned stuff doesn’t vibe with me for some reason. Bottled San Miguel is marginally better than the tinnies.

after one of these there is no going back

Peroni would be my choice

Niamh. 19-06-2023 06:31 PM

San Miguel

MTVN 19-06-2023 06:41 PM

Estrella of those but it's not the best selection. My friends and me have a 5 tier system for larger. It's a source of much debate but generally something like:

Tier 1 - Asahi, Moretti, Camden Helles, Peroni etc
Tier 2 - Madri, Estrella, Pravha, Staropramen etc
Tier 3 - San Miguel, Stella, Heineken etc
Tier 4 - Amstel, Carling, Kronenbourg etc
Tier 5 - Carlsberg, Fosters

Beso 19-06-2023 06:49 PM

Not fosters anyway that's for sure. Cheeky sods have lowered the alcohol by 3 percent without telling us.

Dont mind a bit of Eatrella on a friday night.

Kate! 19-06-2023 07:17 PM

Bud

Alf 19-06-2023 07:28 PM

Stella.

Corrs is a decent tipple too.

To be honest. If it's wet and makes you drunk, I'll sup it.

Obviously that doesn't include Bud light, which is boycotted.

I forgot about Peroni. It’s more of a stellar drink than Stella Artois could ever be.

Stella’s a drink I just swerve because of the reputation of it being a wife-beater’s drink. I don’t know why that saying’s come about when there are stronger beers that don’t necessarily mess people up (Bira Moretti, probably even Peroni) but it’s not a beer I’ve ever particularly liked the taste of (even by beer’s standards) so I didn’t find it hard to abstain from it.

Redway 19-06-2023 08:32 PM

By the way, isn’t Peroni supposed to be quite expensive these days especially?

Alf 19-06-2023 09:03 PM

I'd rather have mushroom soup.

And when I say mushrooms, I mean mushrooms.

German beer is the best imho.

Redway 20-06-2023 11:53 AM

Polish beer’s a bright spark, too. There are times when I’ve bought tinnies of the stuff (8.5%) for buddies just to relish the wasted look on their face when they finish the whole thing. I’d only do it now for people who are worth it but at the particular time it was fun.

It helps that they’re dirt-cheap, but they’re quality.

I miss lockdown beer-drinking.

I can imagine you treating pubs like it’s pre. July 2007. I don’t see any Scottish parmy getting kicked out for smoking without putting up a good whiskey-fuelled argument.

I know a couple fo pubs that allow smoking..both in the leith area of edinburgh.

Bud Light is underrated. Period.

Cruzcampo’s meh. It’s alright but there’s some stuff in men’s pubs that should stay there. Almost like an unspoken fraternity code where anything and everything can go down and drinking something which a lot of people liken to piss left to ferment outside in the middle of an August heatwave (Bud Light) is part of that. Whether you’re there to paint the interior walls red or just chill and soak up a beer. Loud or quiet, Bud Light’s a cheeky pleasure akin to ordering lemon & herb at Nandos because you’re all spiced up for the day and just want to enjoy a bit of thyme and citrus. Cruzcampo’s nothing bad but it’s really just for the vibes. On the other hand the nation pisses on Bud Light but it has its refreshing moments.

I actually can’t imagine how much more intense Scotland’s drinking culture is. You guys have no less of a thing for whiskey than the Irish have for quality Guinness and Scouse Magram types Lambrini and just every shade of Halewood-brewed perry under the sun.

smudgie 28-02-2024 08:33 PM

Hubby drinks Guinness.
In my beer drinking days it would be Ex or Newky Brown.
Then cider.
