Are you for or against fox hunting?

We did this debate about 5 years ago in class and was wondering what everyone thought?

EDIT: I put this in serious debates as I want to DISCUSS it, some of the things I say aren't necessarily MY views, but within a debate you have to consider both sides of the story.

Princess 28-08-2008 12:50 PM

A million percent against. Its just plain cruel.

Jackie 28-08-2008 12:53 PM

Yes it's so cruel and pointless.

MarkWaldorf 28-08-2008 12:55 PM

Against. I HATE it when you see those posh folk on the news/tv who express extreme passion for it. It's vulgar and inhumane.

MarkWaldorf 28-08-2008 12:57 PM

I want to know who voted yes.

LOL Oh! I was ready for a full on debate.

Tom 28-08-2008 01:05 PM

Against, I think its disgusting and sadistic. Why is it someones idea of fun to kill a fox that has done absolutely nothing to them and then sugar coat it with rubbish stories about keeping numbers down?

A few of my friends [YES i go to a posh school] horseride, one does for Britain, and they always find ways out of the fox hunting ban. Or they do it but don't kill the fox at the end.

You can't just say it's inhumane because we're killing animals. Technically, It's the dogs that are killing the animals. Are you a vegetarian, Markus?

I don't want to have a go/start an argument but this is in Serious debates so we should consider all sides of the stories.

Princess 28-08-2008 01:08 PM

I love being a veggie, its gets you out of these animal rights debates.

Well, if you control a population it needs to be constant.
A few of my friends have THEIR chickens killed by foxes a lot more now, and the chickens end up being more scared and producing less eggs.
This results in less chickens
& with less chickens there are less foxes aren't there?

Besides 100,000 foxes are shot or snared each year, but only 16,000 foxes are killed by hunts.

Theres also a massive increase in human population, and humans are killing other animals as well. Some chickens may be scared and produce less eggs. Should we start to do human hunting as well to keep population growth down?

I was a vegetarian but for personal reasons I had to stop. That doesn't mean I'm always eating meat though. And it doesn't mean I enjoy it either.

I didn't mean ALL posh people fox hunt or what not. I just meant the majority I see doing it as an activity are from a wealthy background. Obviously if you knows others that do it too then I'll take that in.

Tom4784 28-08-2008 01:15 PM

I don't really care either way, I suppose in certain agricultural areas it's more neccesary since foxes are a nuisance but I don't really care.

Lol my piano teacher thought I was really strange when I was going on about the human population increase and how we needed to stop it but there was no way, really. :S

Good argument, Tom! If I used karma I'd give you some.

Hmm, but with less chickens and more foxes what does that result in?

Foxes aren't really eaten in england are they?! whereas even Vegetarians can have eggs.

Nicky. 28-08-2008 01:16 PM

I know everyone will now hate me now.. but I voted for.
For the simple fact I love sheep xD

Foxes kill sheep right? So if you kill the foxes, the sheep will be ok :)

Thats my theory on it anyway x

Oh okay, I just think it's a bit hypocritical to say "It's cruel to kill animals" if you eat meat, but I don't think you are being one.

& I have to admit that some of my friends ARE posh fox hunters, but most are just the normal farmer lot!

Yeah, Foxes kill quite a lot of animals.

Nicky. 28-08-2008 01:38 PM

Yup they do

Killing one fox is like saving a bunch of others :) x

Indierock&roll 28-08-2008 04:01 PM

against!! its cruel and theres no point i hate cruelty to animals as i feell they have as much of a right as we do

I think that, too.
Buuut if we went overboard with hunting, then there would be less foxes, and the animals that eat foxes would suffer, or there would be TOO many rabbits/sheep, and they would die due to lack of food.

what animals DO eat foxes?
x

Mrluvaluva 28-08-2008 04:08 PM

It's a barbaric "sport".

bigbr0ther 28-08-2008 04:25 PM

You stole my thread!

http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/foru....php?tid=95550

AND, if you were a bit more responsible and bothered to put up a fence in order to keep your chickens safe, you wouldn't have to worry about foxes getting them!

Same with sheep, Nicky.

Costs such as this one should be considered before taking on the responsibility of caring for these animals.

Spike 28-08-2008 04:30 PM

Its cruel, pointless and actually evil
Killing a poor animal who hasn't done anything just for abit of fun. Its just wrong

Noel 28-08-2008 04:33 PM

It makes me feel sick. I actually feel like vomitting, when I think of people killing poor defenceless animals as a SPORT? People who do this are barbaric, cruel murderers. IMO, it is simply unacceptable and I dread to think, that if this happens in todays world, what it could be like in 30-40 years time. Who's next? Us?

Magic 28-08-2008 11:16 PM

For.
I have been myself before, on my horse.

Thats one of the ignorant views.
So what you are saying is we put up huge metal fences all over the country side, that go under ground and 5ft above to stop the foxes?

D'ya have an idea of how much that would cost, and how it would scar the landscape?

I agree
and I didn't steal your thread Bigbr0ther, It only inspired me to have my own different one.

Barbie 29-08-2008 03:00 PM

against it... what is the point of it

razorbladeromance 30-08-2008 02:38 PM

If you want pest control in your own home, you plant a mouse trap. You dont dress up in your sunday best, get pissed, sound a trumpet, and chase the mouse with a pack of cats.

I love when toff's try and justify it as pest control when their is CLEARLY recreational enjoyment involved.

****ing sick.

30stone 30-08-2008 11:57 PM

Im not for it but i do think there are positives in doing it.

My brother used to do pheasant and lamping ( you wont want to know which animal that is)

What is the difference between killing a Mouse with a mousetrap, and killing a Fox with dogs?

dupin 01-09-2008 10:53 AM

Me & my friends were discussing this the other day, and it's really annoying when people who live in the middle of a city give their big opinions on it without actually having much knowledge about it at all...

Saying that, I am against it, but I don't really care about foxes at all, I just don't like the culture of it and I find all the justifications for it really weak...

Err, I already explained that in the exact post you quoted. Did you read it?. They clearly make a spectacle of it, so its obviously not just for pest control. Its for enjoyment.

The fact that its eight dogs with men on horseback? Or is it the champagne? Or the trumpets? Or the dress?

Shaun 01-09-2008 05:05 PM

I'm against it, but not actively. I personally would never get involved in it, but I understand why people want to.

I also think that a lot of people who claim to be "against it" are merely lashing out at their idea of countryside-dwelling "snobs" and toffs. They'll shout "OMG ITS CRUEL" but blindly.

The fact that people swat flies, spiders, squash ants, chase pigeons...yet object to this because you can SEE the blood, is ridiculous.

Novo 01-09-2008 05:07 PM

only evil people would kill foxes :(

You don't drink champagne when you ride
