Driving lessons..

I started my driving lessons a few weeks ago and on my second lesson (yesterday) I was driving on the main road for a while.. my instructor thinks I'm a natural, haha.

This is a question for people who drive.. how many lessons did you do before passing your test? I know it varies depending on the person but I'm just interested! It's cause I heared the average is 40 :O

I had 36 manual lessons then i made the decision to go to automatic because i couldn't change gear look and stuff all at the same time so automatic is easier although i have stopped driving for a bit im going to start in April.

i dont think so
you have to have your provisional beforehand
which i think you can only get when your 17

Ninastar 11-02-2010 07:36 PM

Can you do your provisional on your birthday?

Sorry I just want to drive as soon as I can. Lol

Oh wow, and yea I've heared automatic is far easier. But the thing is if you learn on an automatic can you then not use/buy a manual car of your ownafter you pass? And all the best starting again in April!

Aww, I'm sure you'll be fine! And you won't hit someone, I was scared of that.. when you learn it's dual control, your instructer will have pedals on their side so they can stop the car whenever (I didn't know that before my first lesson :/).

I've had 20 lessons, been driving for over a year and still haven't passed (failed 3 times on retarded things, for some reason it's more difficult to pass over here which sucks)

Most my friends had like 10 though.

Gemmer-x 11-02-2010 08:00 PM

Had 25 lessons, failed twice. FML :(

Just remember, you don't have to show them you can drive, you just have to show them you can pass your test. It's a bit of a moneymaking scam really IMO. Half the **** they make you do you'll rarely ever use.

The average is not 40. At least in France. So either British people suck at driving or it's not a right number. I know in France the average is between 25 to 30.

Personally, I had 27 hours. It sucked a bit at the beginning but you get used to it. Take your time and think twice about doing something. It will go well.

Beastie 11-02-2010 08:17 PM

I think I had about 30 lessons and passed my theory and driving test on my 2nd time.

8 1 hour lessons, was told apply for test after 1st lesson (as waiting list).........but had really learned with my dad on car parks/country roads. And I've not had an accident in 26 years where I've hit anyone or been at fault (idiots hit me) after got full licence despite having some big engined cars and 3 MRs and driving snow/ice a lot in Scotland.

If you can learn with parent/friend saves a hellava lot of wasted time/money.

Crimson Dynamo 12-02-2010 11:05 AM

8 lessons. in Camden (not the best place to learn). failed after 20 seconds first time and passed the next.

Niamh. 12-02-2010 11:18 AM

I had been driving 3 years before I did my test but I got 5 test lessons beforehand and I passed
