Idea for bans

Just got this idea from the other thread regarding making a 'private section'. I just wondered if it would be worth trying a new system of 'post-ban' to try and actively force members into altering there posting habits.

Say for example, Vicky, was a member who was always causing arguments in The Asylum and such similar threads. She often attacks ANY post UKTurtle makes and is known to just constantly post Harry Potter gifs in threads Harry makes about removing his genital warts. Basically, Vicky is a member that contributes little discussion/real content.

Eventually, say, she is banned for a week or however long you would ban her normally. Then, upon return she has one week 'post ban' where she can only post in certain areas of the forum - for example, TV Chat, Music, Serious Debates and Big Brother - trying to exclude her from the chat side of the forum. Hopefully, then Vicky will get into the habit more contributing for worthwhile content.

Obviously, this would have its flaws. I guess Vicky could just do the same in the serious debates area, and it wouldn't work for all types of members as everyone is banned for breaking different rules. However, I think it's more likely to get members to change there posting habits rather than just a ban. Or do you think it's basically forcing people to discuss stuff they don't care about?

Vicky sounds like a bit of a twat. Let's just permaban her without doing all that.

Even in an example Vicky gets the blame

And I dont think that would work to be honest. Not many members get banned often...and the ones who do, well, lets just say they wont change no matter what you do...if they would, then they wouldnt be banned all the time :p

On a serious note I think thats a really good idea!!

God Vicky, you bitch. What have I ever done to you? Homophobe. :bored:

I don't think it'd really work since it expects the banned member to behave in a rational and mature manner.

Just to clarify, this was only for banned members, not permanently banned members. So anyone would have to have the week ban or whatever it was already set to them, and then they face the additional kind of 'half ban' which is hoped to change their general posting habits.

I take the hint - let's just say there are one or two members who ire me with their sarcastic comments at other FMs which they get away with - come an active BB time, I'm fine and away and can laff/pretend argue with supporters of HMs I hate. Hence '4am Club' which worked as a sanctuary for non-luvvies instead of having to venture into "Chat n Games" territory where it all gets too nasty and personal it always seems to me.

Few of the people I know ever venture outwith the active BB threads, and they've told me the reasons. They are prestigious posters who know their stuff, but never would get drawn-in to the detritus that exists on other parts of the forum.

4am Club became an alternative chat thread for those of us unwilling to get hooked into the ever decreasingly small world and incest of things like "The Cabin" or "Nighthood". Mods/Admin kindly allowed one chat thread on the BB11 which was OT. If you couldn't stick Corin or were an avid Bristolian, then that was fine - it was OT and the only chat place without some 'TiBB expert' telling you that you were a nonentity. Talk freely

During BB11 I never moved outwith that part of the site - some regulars of other parts of the site even followed to 4am which was a neutral zone. Jack_ convinced me to move after about BB9 I think - it was a wrong move.

Tbh If a full ban isn't enough to stop someone from continuing to break the rules taking a way a small section of the forum is hardly going to be a punishment.

Tbh, the mods/admin are quite kind and considerate - I count myself still lucky to be here. You have to be truly awful to get bannedo

It would probably be better to ban this person altogether. After a week, they should've learned their lesson.

Stu 04-06-2011 07:04 PM

I always thought we should toy with banned members profiles. Banned for a week? Stick Stephen Gately on as his or her avatar and change the custom status to IRELANDS MICHAEL JACKSON XX or something.
