Has BB's Audience Type Changed?
 

Just wondering, i think yes. It doesnt seem to attracting the old 'obsessive' types like before. The audience now seems to be just a casual TOWIE type. Sad really. :conf:

Think they are just getting younger, even 3 year olds now demand the Remote!:dance:

Its certainly dumbed down a lot i wish i could be content with what it is now but its too trashy and shallow i will try and carry on watching but it is sad to see whats become of it. its like childrens tv now.

I am not addicted :( and I have been addicted to every series. I am only watching out of habit and hope at the moment. 12 more weeks of it seems a little long though.

I still watch, but in no way like i did before. if i miss it when its on, i ain't that fussed & make no effort really to catch up with it. unthinkable in previous years.

the real bb will be better than this crap.

I am liking this series but I am sort of watching it out of habit. I would much rather listen to some music etc. But sill enjoying it though. I missed BB Bits the other day and normally I would be like I must catch up but now I am like idk.

It definitely doesnt have the emotional pull it once had.

You actually invested in the HMs at one time and couldnt wait for the next ep. Now it's just trashy TV that you don't care too much about missing episodes occasionally.

I'd say it definitely shed many intelligent viewers years ago.

Hard to say at this stage if its audience has changed.

I like this series and I am sure I will enjoy the main BB too.I don't know if the audience has changed as to the make up of it but it would be a positive thing if a new audience was also watching it too.

I think some have left it but it's also gained a fair few as a new audience,I now know people who are watching it who haven't really watched BB before.

It's very lightweight television at the moment. It lost all the emotional power it once had. It's basically filler television, that I only watch because of years of allegiance to the show.

Anyone else bored of non-viewers slagging off people who are actually enjoying this series?

Well, there's been a few while school's out for summer ..... :laugh2:

I'm starting to look forward to it because now the editing has calmed we really have an idea of the characters in there.

That said I wonder if I will still watch as religiously once I am back at Uni and have better things to do.

It's always been targeted at a youngish audience because once upon a time it strongly encouraged you to vote via text and recieve instant text updates and the HMs were generally in their 20s and 30s. But the audience type has changed because:

1) The original audience aren't as young as they once were and over the years more younger viewers come along so it appeals more so to newer teen viewers
2) The emergance of new media technology e.g. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have replaced the text alerts which were the 'now' back in the day
3) the emergance of fresher and edited reality shows such as TOWIE has influenced the style, editing and appeal of BB so it's had to follow this trend to keep fresh

EDIT: It's worth noting that while regular BB tries to appeal largely to a young audience to stay 'cool', Celeb BB still appeals to the slightly older fans because you notice most of the time the celebs are older than the bunch in the regular series although this year's perhaps got the yougnest group of celebs to date and also CBB gets more media interest becaus eof the lineup speculation

Fresher? :D I don't think so, all they have tried to do is copy some aspects of the American series over the last two years and generally they have done a very poor job of it. Big Brother is way bigger than this Essex program so they only want to follow that if they want to make it a much smaller program (audience and budget).

And as for the 'now' medium that is the internet, and that includes forums, a decent BB website and live stream (the things that CH5 ignores). And as for the apps I still don't think some of them are ready, they have been completely amateur and really just lied to the public in overhyping the series and what they would do for it.
