ITV to make a joint bid for Endemol?

Just heard them talk about this on the radio, the Telegraph is running this story tomorrow apparently, couldn't find on their site but it's mentioned here

Quote:

ITV could form a joint venture with Silvio Berlusconi's Mediaset to buy Endemol, the debt-ridden TV production company behind 'Big Brother'. The deal is one of a number of options being discussed by Mediaset.
Strange story if true, dunno why those two companies would be jointly making a bid, doesn't bode well for BB's future on 5

Kerry 30-08-2011 01:12 AM

Doesn't really bode well for BB by the sounds of it. Too many fingers in pies and all that

GypsyGoth 30-08-2011 01:14 AM

I hate Silvio Berlusconi.

CharlieO 30-08-2011 01:21 AM

It might not change anything, ITV can't take all their shows. It may be purely financial.

Patrick 30-08-2011 01:30 AM

Oh My Days.

My future is ruined.

They'll axe Big Brother and when they axe Big Brother then there won't be a Series 15 - and if there isn't a BB15 then I won't be able to go on the show at all.

This is my whole life down the ******ing drain.

Now I'm going to have to like, get a job and do well in school and sh*t!

keithafc 30-08-2011 02:15 AM

Will axe Big Brother if they get Endemol unless people would be happy if it is stuck on ITV2.

CharlieO 30-08-2011 02:36 AM

It's a joint venture so it does not necessarily mean BB is affected at all.

I agree, it's too early to speculate what may or may not happen, also they haven't reached any deal yet either.

Hopefully BB won't be affected and current contracts and also near planned ones for the future that may already be 'pencilled in' will be fully honoured.

I don't understand why all you idiots are jumping on the band wagon insisting this doesn't bode well for BB's future. I don't get it. At the end of the day, Endemol is a business, with Big Brother being their most popular and export, ITV wouldn't just cut it because they don't like it. Besides which, there is no information to suggest anything would happen to BB, Deal or No Deal or any other gameshow. It's ridiculous assumption based on no real evidence.

Where does it say Big Brother will be affected. It's simply a buy-out of a debt ridden company which would actually do nothing but good for the company (and even possibly Big Brother).

It's troubling news because it shows how much trouble the company is in and it's future is going to be a turbulent and unstable one. I believe the contract with Channel 5 is only for 2 years with an option of increasing it for 5, it's possible that new owners of Endemol will be far less inclined to increase that contract; it's a show that most in the mainstream media considered dead in the water and they might want to focus on other shows more, in recent years Deal or no Deal has proven more successful than BB.

And don't call people idiots.

jsd 30-08-2011 12:15 PM

ITV make shows for BBC, etc. so I doubt they'd have a problem doing it for C5 if it made money

CaudleHalbard 30-08-2011 01:09 PM

Surely BB is one of Endemol's biggest earners?

Endemol can't axe Big Brother :D, only C5.

BB is C5's till 2015 unless C5 axe it next year.

DigitalSid 30-08-2011 01:26 PM

ITV buying Endemol wouldn't affect BB.

Marc 30-08-2011 01:27 PM

They shouldn't have made this series so bad :idc: if it was a success then BB would be kept on. Simple.

If your life is Big Brother and you feel that you don't have to get a job because you'll keep auditioning for it makes me worry for you.
