Writing Competition

Hey, not sure how much interest there'll be for this, but this section of the forum is very quiet right now, so in an attempt to liven it up, how about a Writing Competition? (Have obtained permission to do this)

Here's the Lowdown.

Three Categories are available, you may only choose one for your entry.

Short Story or
Articles of Interest or
Poem/Prose

The Article can contain a poem as well if it's on the same topic.

The first two are self-explanatory and can be on any subject. Articles of Interest - like a newspaper or magazine article on a topical subject, be it media, political, sport, wildlife, anything you think people would like to read about. You may use up to three pictures in your article. All categories will be judged together for one overall winner so choose wisely :)

I'll need a minimum of 5 entries to make it a viable competition but more would be great.

Post in here if you intend to submit an entry, and you have two weeks from today to deliver the finished product. So that'll be the 23rd May. Deadline extended to 30th May.

All entries will be posted in a separate thread with a forum vote to choose a winner. No formal award but I'm sure you will get a mention in the Games Announcements thread if you win :)

Over to you lot.

Entrants so far:

Kizzy - Article plus Poem
Vanessa - Article
Mollie ?? to be confirmed -
Josiah - Poem
LemonJam - Article
GypsyGoth - ??
Jarroddaniel1 -

A couple of articles and poem to go with them?

Kate! 09-05-2012 10:45 AM

you can enter any or all of the categories, but once only, so not two articles sorry. The categories will also be voted on separately. However, there is nothing to say that your article cannot include a poem if you wish?

Just hope there's a bit of interest for this, not many budding writers on here?

Ok, thanks Kate. I'll try.

Kate! 09-05-2012 11:41 AM

if you are having a go. let me know in here, easier than sending a pm, and say which category as well please. I wouldn't start writing yet, as we may not even get the interest to make it worthwhile, but let's hope so eh, least it's an attempt to do something for the forum :)

I wouldn't go for that really, as it's not a factual piece (rather your opinion) and I don't think it would get votes as such? Could be wrong, but I'd rather it was a factual article if that's what you are going for? :)

Josiah. 09-05-2012 12:56 PM

I am doing a poem.

Ok. An article about a celebrity would suit me fine!

Kate! 09-05-2012 02:39 PM

So far I have Kizzy (to be confirmed) and Vanessa and Coldwinter (definites).

Just a couple more. I'll blend the categories together if needs be.

LemonJam 09-05-2012 04:34 PM

I'm more of a scriptwriting person... but I can give this a shot. :)

Kate! 09-05-2012 04:37 PM

thanks LJ, :) Which are you attempting, the story/poem or article?

LemonJam 09-05-2012 04:48 PM

I'm not sure, I'm torn between all three. Possibly article actually (although I've never written one before, I have a topic in mind)

Kate! 09-05-2012 04:51 PM

ok, well just send it when you're done and I will post all the entries in here.

I am just about to amend the OP as well to reflect that all categories will be merged, one winner overall :)

Kate! 09-05-2012 06:09 PM

anyone else want to do this? 5 entries will be plenty if nobody else has a go, but the more the merrier.

GypsyGoth 10-05-2012 09:32 PM

I'll do it :D

Tom4784 10-05-2012 10:57 PM

I'd contribute a short story but I'm not sure I could write one under 500 words.
