Channel 4 axes T4 after 14 years

Quote:

Channel 4 is dropping the T4 brand after 14 years as it begins the search for a Friday night music show to refresh its youth programming.

The brand, produced by Shine’s Princess Productions, will come to an end in December. It initially launched on Sundays and was later expanded to both Saturdays and Sundays on C4.

But the brand was moved onto E4 only after the launch of magazine show Sunday Brunch – also produced by Princess.

Talent such as Demot O’Leary, Vernon Kay, Simon Amstell, Alexa Chung, Rick Edwards and Nick Grimshaw have all done stints on T4, often in the early part of their careers.

Head of formats Dominic Bird is now looking for three music shows to pilot in the new year, which will be scheduled for Friday nights in 2013.

The decision reflects the decline of the T4 audience as a result of E4, which has become the broadcaster’s main brand for the 16-34 audience.

The move to E4 was the beginning of the end, I remember thinking that at the time. Can't say I'm sad cause I've rarely bothered watching it but it'll be odd to think it won't exist anymore.

And maybe it's just me but I always think in cases like this where it's close to a milestone year why don't they just continue until then, like why not get to 15 years and then finish? Probably just my OCD though.

The presenters were awful but I didn't mind some the shows they aired on Saturday mornings :(
Looking forward to the Friday night music show though.

They'll probably turn it into something else, like change the name or something.

We can only hope, every year I was praying a tidal wave would take out the performers and those who actually spent money to go watch them.

Channel 4 just love axing their shows.

Raph 12-10-2012 05:54 PM

Channel 4 just keep cancelling all that's good - Big Brother, FRIENDS, what next? I mean I didn't watch this much but it's better than lots of other stuff they show nowadays.

-Used to be my ultimate favourite channel-

Thank god! The presenters were becoming more and more annoying and false

MTVN 13-10-2012 03:26 PM

Yeah the presenters were terrible, was really annoying just waiting for a show to start and they'd be there pointlessly waffling on for a good 5 minutes
