Is It Bad That I Dunno What I Want To Do?

Carried on from a chat with Ammi. I'm 20 and while I may be studying at Uni I legit dunno what I wanna do with my life afterwards. Always been an issue with me. People would know what they wanted to do from early and I would be "I'll see in the future", but I still don't really know tbh.

How bad is this? Am I the only one or is someone else as bad as me? lol

Nope I don't see the problem. You've got so many years yet, sometimes it takes longer for some to find what they want to do :p

Ramsay 18-02-2013 11:38 PM

Im 21 and have no idea either its no big deal. im gone past the point of caring

MTVN 18-02-2013 11:39 PM

Probably in the same position as about 75% of students, I don't have a clue either, most annoying question to be asked

LemonJam 18-02-2013 11:39 PM

I'm 21 about to leave uni and my plans fell through so I have no idea what to do now.

You're most certainly not alone.

Amy Jade 18-02-2013 11:39 PM

Not at all, sometimes people just take longer to find their path.

I'm sure whatever you choose you will excell at though.

GypsyGoth 18-02-2013 11:41 PM

I'm not sure, I have ideas of what I want to do. But I'm in no hurry.

All of the people i knew in highschool that said they didn't know what they wanna do when they grow up....they're all unemployed now. (including myself)

If i were you, i'd pick something and just go for it. You can always change your mind later, but i do think you should pick a specific career and go for it.

Ammi 18-02-2013 11:45 PM

..ok, I'm just going to paste what I wrote in the igloo Brother Leon...

..no that's not bad at all BL, I think that's good actually...there's so much to do between uni and working and you're still very young so why not explore that first..travel and experience different jobs etc and see what fits and what doesn't and then you'll know you've made the right choice...so many people start their working lives straight away and then a few years down the line, realise they're stuck in a bit of a rut and hadn't given it enough thought when they made their choices....

King Gizzard 18-02-2013 11:51 PM

just be grateful you'll have a degree behind you

Jesus. 18-02-2013 11:54 PM

Very few people end up doing what they actually want to do. That's life, I'm afraid.

Just finding something that you semi enjoy, and feel like you could do for a few decades is a bonus. You'll be fine.

is it the Baz Luhrmann song that says "the most interesting 40 year olds I know don't know what they want to do with their life"

but yeah I can relate... mixture of the job market being dead, a couple of personal insecurities with my writing and the nature of reviewing and music-blogging being really angry and competitive.

It's best thinking outside the box to make money nowadays, you could be waiting for a Job for years and years and go to countless interviews and not get anywhere, spend that time being inventive and it will all come together

Pretty good advice there, sometimes one thing leads to another, but you have to have your foot in the door of some career, even if it is just a part time job its a bit of experience and life skills yadda yadda yadda.
