maybe if her government hadnt detsroyed families and fatherhood, kids would have more protection and parentship at home teaching them right from wrong and protecting them against these images online and on tv etc

lostalex 02-04-2013 12:46 PM

Rudy Gulianni did this for Times Square in the 90's. Some people praise him for it, others say he turned Times Square into Disneyland.

This current government are doing much more to destroy families and fatherhood IMO.

The bedroom tax is extremely discriminatory against joint custody parents who have their kids on weekends/holidays/etc. And 9 times out of 10, that is the father. Yet he is now told he cant have a bedroom for the kids anymore.

Obviously this is only low paid/unemployed people. But it is still going to pull apart a lot of families.

On topic..I kind of agree with Dianne here. It pains me to say that as I think she is an utter twat usually.

yes I agree on that point, its pitiful penny pinching

overall though labour were the worst government in british history, scum of the earth. they destroyed EVERYTHING. at least these idiots have started to reduce unemployment by a few hundred thousand. overall though theyre almost as bad as the last lot. if the english press werent so racist perhaps gordon brown would have had afair chance. despite his failings, he was right on europe and the euro and he was right about growing our way out of a recession as america have successfully done. obama took browns advice.

Actually, despite the furore about the bedroom tax and the rumour about the minimum wage - because that's what it is at the moment, a rumour.... This present government has cut income tax for 24 million working people and taken over 2 million people out of income tax altogether with the biggest rise in tax free earnings by any government, ever.

And on topic... Dianne Abbot is a liability. How she got away with some of the stuff she has in her career is a mystery.

That doesnt change the fact that the bedroom 'tax' (as I know its not a tax, just what its commonly called) is discriminatory against seperated parents...moreoften the fathers.

Or that its unfair pretty much any way you look at it.

I'm actually better off because of the recent budget. But I still dont like what they are doing to those worse off than me.

Livia 02-04-2013 01:57 PM

I agree that there should be exceptional circumstances regarding the bedroom thing, and it has definitely not been thought right through to the end. Separated families, like you say, should be a special circumstance, as should people who foster, people who have family serving with HM Forces and several other bits of fine-tuning that really need to be addressed. However, there are a lot of people living in social housing with more bedrooms than they need while larger families are squished into properties that are too small.

I'm implying that having perspectives other than just rich str8 white men in parliament is important. And to have a bunch of rich str8 white men ganging up on an old fat black woman, would be unsightly, so of course that would be taken into consideration.

Lee. 02-04-2013 02:07 PM

Hmm.. I have to say I agree with her!

Kizzy 02-04-2013 02:09 PM

I think she is right, we all know sex sells but it is getting beyond a joke now. And as for raising the lower rate of tax what purpose does this serve? Surely everyone contributing fairly is a better solution than penalising the poorest, squeezing the middle and giving tax breaks to the richest?

It's not her perspectives I dislike, it's her propensity for playing the race card when it suits her (there, I've said it...) and for her disingenuousness throughout her whole career.

I don't disagree. I've seen her on Question Time plenty of times, and i think you've characterized her fairly and accurately.

Yes, this is the main reason I cannot stand the woman too.

Usually yes she does Suze.

I don't disagree with all she says but don't agree with a lot, there are some things she believes strongly in though and this is one of them.

However as to Diane Abbott,I think Livia has it spot on as to her actually.

the truth 02-04-2013 04:08 PM

shes just a populist politician who always plays the race card and the sex discrimination card, she is ignorant as hell in debate, always talks over people too
