Well she said her paycheck was to cover private school fees or something, but that might have just been a dig at Pricey.
I don't know really. I think she has a real need for fame and attention. Maybe she wanted to just be herself in the house and see if the public liked her and accepted her for who she truly is warts and all.
Much and all as I don't care for her, we have seen a few times where she is a bit more normal, or where she has seemed well liked by friends and funny. I personally feel this all gets overshadowed though by the times she is too nasty and mean and by the way she never seems happy unless she has at least one person in the house who she is not getting along with who she can bitch about and argue and bicker with constantly. She really does seem to have a need to argue with someone. It's like she thrives of it and it's her fuel for life. I think she would be miserable and bored in a peaceful happy house where she had nothing to disagree with. At least longterm anyways, she might be ok with it for a few days.
She's supposed to be somebody who just says what she thinks and doesn't care who it offends etc., but I really feel it's the attention more than anything that she craves. Lots of people are very opinionated with unpopular opinions but not many would want to be in the public eye and make a column or tweets about their opinion even if they were offered. Not necessary out of cowardice but maybe because they just value their privacy.
I think a lot of celebrities have a very strong need for attention and crave it from a large audience. Just their friends and family wouldn't be enough. I feel this more about people who are famous for things like just being party animals, or looking good, or being controversial, or reality tv. Not so much as for genuinely good singers or actors or artists as these are skills. It's not always a bad thing, some z listers are lovely just crave attention, others if they can't get that attention for looking really stunning or having an interesting life or nice personality, might use more nasty or over the top controversial means to get that attention they desire.
I would love, love, love the experience of doing civilian big brother but would never do it because I absolutely hate the idea of ever being even slightly in the public eye and open for judgement from such a large audience. I would hate for my family or friends to be approached by tabloids looking for dirt, I would hate for forums full of people describing me as "boring" or worse mean comments, I would hate stories about my past or my family being in the papers, I would hate snaps being taken of me for magazines or blogs that commented on what I was wearing, or my relationship with my boyfriend etc., I would hate being recognisable walking down the street, I would also worry that it would effect my career prospects in science.
Being famous for a scientific breakthrough I would be ok with as the tabloids don't follow them around!, but in general I like my anonymity.
Katie Hopkins and some other celebs seem the opposite to this. Katie has been on the Apprentice, I'm a celebrity, Big Brother and we also know that she auditioned for the very first series of BB too so it would seem she has always wanted to be in the public eye in some way. Again I don't have a problem with this, many celebs I like are similar, just maybe when it was exposed that Katie had an affair with 3 married men which 7 children were affected by, that she thought "well I'm never going to be liked for being a nice person so might as well not hold back" and get her attention for being controversial instead.
Although she gets such criticism for her opinions, she also does get a lot of support too which then of course makes her believe that she is a voice that says what others are afraid to. It gives her a purpose in her own mind at least, and also the attention she craves.
Maybe with BB she wanted to show that there was more to her than just the title of homewrecker or bitch or whatever. I don't think she wanted everyone to think she was nice and that she didn't really mean the things she said, because I believe she probably does fully believe a lot of what she says. I think it's more that she wants people to see that yes she IS opinionated and has controversial opinions, but that there is also more to her like her sense of humour etc and that she can show kindness to some people.
This seemed to have worked quite well for her in fairness as many people are thinking this about her. For others, her behaviour in the house has just confirmed she is still a cow a lot of the time. It's just how people will differ in opinion on how they judge her actions in there.
I never gave a fcuk about her beforehand, just saw her as an irritating attention seeking fly really that I never gave much thought too or was hugely bothered by. In the house at first she just reinforced this idea I had of her when she gave crap insults on opening night, and the way she used to do over the top hand motions and panto in the diary room for the first week few days. Cami Li always angered me more because she was just so vicious and aggressive in the way she spat out her insults and the snappy fingers "bitch" thing.
However Hopkins hasn't endeared herself to me either. Yeah at first I just thought of her as an eejit really, but I've seen how unnecessarily cruel she can be too, particularly to Alicia. I've seen how she will try to pick at and argue with quieter people who are not looking for trouble like Alicia,Patsy and Keith until she can make them react. I just think if that's how you need to get your attention, then sorry but not a huge fan.
(I never minded her arguments with Perez and Nadia as much because they both seem to love arguing too although sometimes she just never knew when to let something go with Perez and would antagonise him even though she told everybody to ignore him, I also didn't agree with her trying to get everybody to isolate him either - she had no right to dictate to others what to do in the aim of making someone she didn't like uncomfortable)
So yeah sorry I've rambled on far too much, but I think her reasons are mainly validation from the public that she can be a controversial cow but that she also has a nicer side too, and the attention too of course that she feeds of.
