Conservative parliamentary candidate Mike Whitehead defects to UKIP
Not a big Deal
as he was starting out. Then wants to jump ship http://www.theguardian.com/politics/...mike-whitehead |
The Tories had apparently already sacked him and Alan Johnson is never going to lose that seat anyway so not much to see here, "hammer blow" my arse

I wouldn't see this as a hammer blow but I really do hate this when people accept the candidacy for a seat, are supported by their party, no matter which one it is, then do this.
These are the sort of people who should really think, should they ever really be in politics, how can you right up to an election being called, go through the process of being elected to represent a party, get chosen, have their full backing and then switch with any credibility. It shows no level of loyalty whatsoever, therefore such people, I for one, would view with geat suspicion as to whether they could ever be trusted as to their word. After wasting loads of party workers and members time in the process. |
It may not be a 'hammer blow', but it won't do Dave's cause much good either, because a lot of people do not really read beyond a headline.
|
Alan Johnson would make a great Labour leader.
The other fella..whatsisname who jumped ship will be no loss to the Tories. UKIP are welcome to him I reckon. It will be interesting to see who else jumps. |

Why not Diane Abbott? She's got about as much respect as Miliband.
I particularly liked her passion when it came to schools... insisting that grammar schools were elitist should be no more and that everyone should have a state education... while sending her own children to private school. |

Every defection helps..... Chips away a little more and the headline alone is worth it.

The sad thing is Josh, she could never win an election or even come close to if she were leader. The media the way they are now towards Ed Milband would be even worse gunning for her as a leader. I wish Ed Miliband had showed the courage to move to the left more because I really believe that is what the economy and the UK needs as a whole now. Things have gone way too far the other way after the Tony Blair years and now this last 5 years of this shower. I don't disagree with Diane on everything but I do feel her day is gone,it may need someone like her in the future to really shake things up to really bring full justice, fairness and compassion back to policy making. |

Worth it to show how desperate and cynical Ukip are that they are trumpeting the 'defection' of a sacked Tory competing for a Labour safe seat as some massive hammer blow, what a fool Farage is

Some rats went from Labour to UKIP Leaving Your Sinking Ship |

I don't know how you can call Labour a sinking ship really. Since it is only Labour and UKIP of the wholly national UK parties that are at present in polling, having a rise in voting intentions since 2010, as opposed to a fall in voting intentions for the Conservatives and Lib Dems, that doesn't sound much like sinking to me when they are in fact up. |
Looks like Carswell now is regretting defecting to Ukip, he is actually a comparatively moderate and sensible voice who Farage should be fawning over but it instead looks like he is alienating him. All is not well in the Ukip camp however much they trumpet about non-defections like this

I think these defections, tell me that there are deep troubles, in the main two parties, nigel farage said that there will be another six defections from the cons, and a few from labour, aswell,
