well, back when James was relevant they used to say "James Whale, that fat bastard". It was like it was his full 5-word name throughout the peak years of his career.

...that's just James Whale though..he has one of those Jack Dee type faces and doesn't show much expression...or shows the same expression whatever his emotions, so I don't really think that it meant anything to read into that he didn't smile...
