Has Hollywood star found tomb of Jesus?

From the Daily Mirror:

By Vanessa Allen 27/02/2007

TITANIC director James Cameron yesterday unveiled a 2,000-year-old "bone box" - and said it was Jesus's coffin.

It is one of 10 metre-long caskets discovered by builders who stumbled on an ancient tomb near Jerusalem. The others are allegedly caskets that held the bones of Mary, Joseph, Mary Magdalene and Judah - said to be Jesus's son.

In New York, Cameron showed a press conference the caskets of Jesus and Mary Magdalene - calling them "one of the greatest archaeological finds of all time."

He said one has "Jesus, son of Joseph" scratched on it in ancient Aramaic while the other has "Mariamne" - Mary Magdalene's real name - in Greek.

Another casket is said to have the inscription "Judah, son of Jesus". Cameron, who has made a documentary about the caskets, said the find bolstered the theory that Jesus married Mary and had a child.

He added that finding the names of the holy family together was the equivalent of discovering a grave marked Ringo alongside a John, Paul and George.

Cameron said DNA tests on the coffins showed Mary and Jesus were not related - further proof they may have been married.

But he has angered clerics who say claims that Jesus had a coffin contradict Christian belief in the resurrection.

And Amos Kloner, the first archaeologist to study the caskets when they were found 26 years ago, branded the claims "nonsense". He added: "They are the most common names among Jews at the time."

What do you think?

Yeah!!! Watertight!!!

I like the Beatles reference. That clinches it!!!!!

What a load of old scrote.

Mrluvaluva 27-02-2007 10:32 AM

Why is it a load of old scrote? Makes you think though doesn't it. I find it quite interesting and it will be good to see how the story develops.

GiRTh 27-02-2007 10:38 AM

It's full of holes. How do they connect these random caskets to Jesus the son of God. The Beatles reference is a daft analogy because I think there probably are caskets with those names on them buried next to each other. It's one hell of a leap to find these caskets and then connect them to the son of God.

Doesn't mean it's not true though does it? They could be. Maybe we'll never know, but the possibility is there.

BigSister 27-02-2007 10:49 AM

it could be trude but i doubt it quite intreting though

This photo shows the facade of the burial tomb in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Talpiot, where the ossuaries were found.

Mrluvaluva 27-02-2007 11:35 AM

This ossuary has the inscription Yeshua Bar Yehosef (Jesus son of Joseph).

Siouxsie 27-02-2007 02:39 PM

mmmmmmmmm interesting but personally i dont tink i believe it

Psylocke 27-02-2007 03:12 PM

Cool story tho, cant deny its interesting.

MarkWaldorf 27-02-2007 03:13 PM

If it is, I think everything about Jesus could be answered.

Mrluvaluva 27-02-2007 03:15 PM

There's a programme about it on the discovery channel on Sunday.

MarkWaldorf 27-02-2007 03:22 PM

Is this real? Have they actually found his tomb?

Mrluvaluva 27-02-2007 03:23 PM

Yes! Check it out on the BBC news website.

MarkWaldorf 27-02-2007 03:25 PM

Wow. And his bones were really in there?

Lauren 27-02-2007 03:25 PM

LOL, bet he has a film or something coming out soon. What perfect publicity, eh.

How fitting that it has a name and a mini-description on it

They did use to do that. You see some old gravestones that say things like "here lies Peter, son of Jack & Vera". Also, if there was a lot of Jesus's about, as it was a common name, and they didn't have surnames, it would be the only way to identify them.

There's a possibility that the whole meta-narrative of God/Jesus was blown out of proportion. He may have just been a person much respected in a community (none of this miracle/making the World malarkey) and the stories have emphasised his importance so much that we have the modern day bible stories. Thats the only way I will possibly accept that this is the tombstone of "Jesus" who was probably just an ordinary bloke.

But my general feeling is that I am too cynical to accept that this is the son of the man who created the World and impregnated a 12 year old girl (Mary) without her consent/acknowledgment - and strangely has the ability to heal the wounded/dying. Bit too far-fetched in my opinion

(I think I'm too cynical haha)

We will most probably never know the truth. "God" is a faith and a belief. It depends what you believe in, and how you perceive it. The unknown is interesting though, like my favourite unanswerable question about space & eternity. How can space go on forever? Surely it must come to a stop. But how can it? Something would have to stop it.

What would exist if we didn't? Whats beyond the universe?

My brain hurts.

GiRTh 27-02-2007 04:06 PM

Stop with all the metaphysics and existentialism it always leads to headaches.

I agree with Lauren. The bible is an extremely contradictory book but it talks of a second coming. If there is ever a second coming of Christ the Christians would be the last ones convinced.

How would they know if it's Jesus or not?
Anyway.. I thought Jesus never died :|

Yeah, didn't he just disappear, ready for a second-coming?

Meh, it has too many contradictions for me to believe it.

yeah, and then off down the pub for a party!! Seriously, if "God " exists, it is on another plane that we are not capable of comprehending.
