My dad answered the phone and someone claiming to be Microsoft have blocked our main computers and asking for money to fix it yet i searched online and found it was a scam and Microsoft do not ring you so what should i do? our computer is blocked

Crimson Dynamo 16-02-2017 02:00 PM

It cant be blocked unless your dad fell for this very widely known scam and then sat down at the pc and went through with it?

Niamh. 16-02-2017 02:00 PM

Tell your dad he's very silly for falling for the most well known scam going :nono:

Marsh. 16-02-2017 02:01 PM

I can fix it for you.

Do you have PayPal? I'm going to need £100 first?

Make sure you are absolute certain that it is a scam and then phone the police if needs be.

What do you mean by your computer is blocked? Like, it wont turn on, asking for password, what?

Mystic Mock 16-02-2017 02:15 PM

Go to a Computer shop and see if any of them can fix the problem.

yes but unless your dad allowed them access remotely to the pc or downloaded something..

it cant be blocked from a phonecall, did he sit at the PC and follow the instructions?

Vicky. 16-02-2017 02:20 PM

OK. Sounds like this is a trojan called Reveton. Search up on that...I sorted one of these out for a friend years back so will look into it now. You obviously know this but do not send any money anywhere, the one my mate had was asking for $300 to be send by 'moneypak' to unlock the computer.

Also if you do any internet banking or anything, contact your bank to let them know to be on the lookout. There is a very large chance these scammers have remote access to your computer right now
