Why have I gained weight and how should I lose it??

SURPRISE! I made a serious thread and It's for selfish gain haha! Maybe some fat people on here could use the tips yall will give but idk back to me

Basically early September I was 84kg give or take. Not exactly healthy but I looked SKINNY so what else matters?

Almost two weeks ago I was weighed at the doctors. It said I was 92kg, but I had shoes on. I googled it and it turns out shoes only affect 1kg of weight at most, and when I weighed myself today at home, I weighed 91kg, so I'm definitely above 90kg :skull:

What I don't get is, how? Over the summer I was pretty inactive. I went on hour walks here and there but most of my summer was spent inside playing video games and eating takeaway and sweets, surely I should have gained weight over summer? (I was 84kg at the start too I think)

Now I'm at college, I'm walking a lot more, especially to and from the bus stops and home. I also started going the gym (albeit not often), yet I somehow gained 7kg?

I only really measure myself monthly but for as long as I can remember I've always stayed between 80-84kg. The only time I was ever as bad as this was when I was literally bedbound/chairbound for 4 months and I was 96kg, which was expected as I barely exercised... and yeah now I'm still eating ****ty food but I'm getting more exercise in? I walk to and from work every Saturday so surely I should be losing weight for that?

My only explanation is that I've recently had my birthday and I pretty much stress ate the chocolate I got... and I ended up eating 2 400g jars of nutella in 2 days by myself and an extra one this month. But I've never been that impulsive? I always ration my sweets (I still have some from my last birthday a year ago :skull:) but surely that couldn't have made such a big difference?

Now I know the simple answer to get back to my usual weight would be "do what you did last time to lose 96+kg" but I can't because I forgot what I did? I went to the gym daily and I walked a lot but even before then/after I didn't do anything different to what I'm doing now and I remained at 84kg, and I probably just lost Wright because I could finally walk and burn the fat off me

I'm honestly self centred and don't care about my looks and I always thought I was attractive, and while you can be attractive and fat, I've definitely lost self confidence noticing the weight gain. I could see my moons through my shirt today and that only happened when I was 96kg (I had a permanent double chin and I couldn't get to the first notch on my belt yet I never cared about my weight then which is odd imo??), I feel like my jawline and clavicles have became less defined, and my stomach had gotten so much rounder/I can really grip my moobs and it's upsetting :bawling: plus I swear I'm getting stretch marks again but I obviously still have my old ones from when I gained such a large amount of weight

I'm just honestly worried. I always had pride in the fact that I lost so much weight and how I bettered myself and now I'm back to square one... which I got to by being effectively immobile and inhaling food.

I need to lose weight, healthily and fast. Any suggestions? My mental and probably physical well being depends on it :)

If you started the gym maybe you gained muscle and not fat?

Firewire 28-10-2017 09:45 AM

Stop eating fat

caprimint 28-10-2017 10:21 AM

It's possible that some of the weight you've gained is muscle not fat, which weighs heavier.

Diet is more important than exercise however. You can eat all the **** you want, exercise and still be fat. But if you start eating healthily and don't exercise, you will lose weight. People will say be aware of your calories - from my experience that doesn't matter. You could eat 2,000 calories of salad and not gain weight, but if you eat 800 calories of cakes/cookies etc, you will. It's all about the fat content. Choose foods with low fat in them. Definitely try to limit your portion sizes as well, do not overeat. When you're full then stop.

Another good way of losing weight is intermittent fasting. Look it up for all the specific details, but the basis of it is that you give yourself an 'eating timeframe' eg. 8hrs a day and for the rest of the hours you fast. Within that timeframe you should eat 2 sized average meals, but choose healthy foods obviously. After about 12hrs that you stop eating your body begins to burn fat, helping you to lose weight.

Try either of these methods depending on what suits you.

Don't stress about it, just enjoy life.

Its a major source of calories and the OP did state that weight was gained at college even tho food intake did not increase so its logical

I usually don't give two flips of a donkey's tail about my looks but I suddenly got really self-conscious :worry: thank you though  I think if I just have a different mindset I'll be fine

Thanks for the advice  my diet's pretty much stayed the same so I'm not too sure why the weight gain, but I'll certainly look towards changing my diet and watching what I eat. I've had 3 takeaways this week which certainly hasn't helped, but I could have 4 a week back in summer and remain somewhat slim :worry: Time to hammer fruit and veg!

I thought that too Josy, but I've went like, 4 times in 6 weeks and each session was an hour at most :joker: I hope you're right :worry: thanks

I’m not reading all that just put the fork down you fat bastard

Lush 28-10-2017 05:49 PM

I went from 91kg to 69kg simply by changing how I looked at food and exercise.

I used to comfort eat or I would absolutely pig out late at night. However now I only eat when I'm hungry, which mainly means three core meals during the day and maybe like a bowl of cereal before bed. I also tried cutting my portion sizes down, so now I'll have my pasta or my rice in a bowl rather than the huge ass plates full of it that I used to have.

Make sure however you allow yourself treats too. Throughout my whole time losing weight I allowed myself one take away a week and maybe 2-3 bars of chocolate during the week.

Working out is also great - going to the gym a few times a week and mix of cardio and weights. However you seem to be doing that so keep it up. As someone else pointed out maybe the weight gain is muscle rather than fat.
