Mars products not veggie (UPDATE: \"MasterFoods\" decide to keep product suitable for veggie\'s)

MARS PRODUCTS NOT VEGGIE

The Vegetarian Society is extremely disappointed to learn that Mars favourites such as Mars, Milky Way, Bounty, Snickers, Galaxy, Twix and Maltesers are now all unsuitable for vegetarians. At a time when more and more consumers are concerned about the provenance of their food, Masterfoods’ decision to use non-vegetarian whey is a backward step. Mars products are very popular with young people and many will be shocked to discover that their manufacture now relies on the extraction of rennet from the stomach lining of young calves.

Please contact Masterfoods Customer Services on 0845 045 0042 to express your concern.

From Vegartain Society

Just listened on the radio anything from mars with use by date after October is not suitable.

Mars is one of my favourite chocolate makers but that'll change soon.

Ruth 15-05-2007 08:01 AM

I heard that too. But it's made with milk chocolate - where do people think milk comes from in the first place?!

Sophii3x 15-05-2007 08:14 AM

OMG! My litte sister's a veggie and LOVES them chocolates. She's gonna be gutted.

Princess 15-05-2007 04:27 PM

Oh nooooooooo!I love some of those! Ah well,I'll just go back to Dairy Milks then!

Sophii3x 15-05-2007 04:30 PM

LAURA!

My sister went ballistic when I told her, she said that she wants to sue them.

Princess 15-05-2007 04:31 PM

Soph!!

Yeah its horrible to hear, been a veggie near 4 years now and its like great I've been eating animal insides. Its outrageous, its not that they use it,its that they didn't make it public knowledge!

Sophii3x 15-05-2007 04:35 PM

I know. I'd feel really pissed off if I was a vegetarian. They've lied to the nation, it's not really fair.

Bells 15-05-2007 05:00 PM

Why have they gone and done that? I'd be surprised if it was money problems, but at the end of the day people should be entitled to enjoying chocolate! And Mars is my favourite company so I'm disappointed. :bored:

xGemmax 15-05-2007 05:04 PM

That's disguisting :yuk: Not that I eat Mars bars anyway, but I'll definately be avoiding them now

Z 15-05-2007 05:35 PM

To address Princess' point, I think they've only just started using rennet and haven't been using it until now, or at least that was my understanding of the post.

Emilee 15-05-2007 05:38 PM

Uh - oh... What a discovery i never really eat chocolate anyway...
If i do its green and blacks organic lol.... Suitable for veggi's.

I'm loving twirls right now...

Sticks 16-05-2007 05:06 AM

There is always Cadburys

Sticks 18-05-2007 07:56 PM

Some alternates to Mars

The Boost bar has glucose and so is the rival to Mars.

You can also go Fair Trade

Corkie 18-05-2007 08:15 PM

Cheers for the alternatives.. I love boosts.. also i'm a great fan of green and blacks (organic chocolate)

Dr43%er 21-05-2007 09:48 AM

Just to let you know they have changed their minds and they will stay veggie.
