Default Mars products not veggie (UPDATE: \"MasterFoods\" decide to keep product suitable for veggie\'s)

Quote:

MARS PRODUCTS NOT VEGGIE

The Vegetarian Society is extremely disappointed to learn that Mars favourites such as Mars, Milky Way, Bounty, Snickers, Galaxy, Twix and Maltesers are now all unsuitable for vegetarians. At a time when more and more consumers are concerned about the provenance of their food, Masterfoods’ decision to use non-vegetarian whey is a backward step. Mars products are very popular with young people and many will be shocked to discover that their manufacture now relies on the extraction of rennet from the stomach lining of young calves.

Please contact Masterfoods Customer Services on 0845 045 0042 to express your concern.

From Vegartain Society

Just listened on the radio anything from mars with use by date after October is not suitable.

Mars is one of my favourite chocolate makers but that'll change soon.

I heard that too. But it's made with milk chocolate - where do people think milk comes from in the first place?!

I know. I'd feel really pissed off if I was a vegetarian. They've lied to the nation, it's not really fair.

Why have they gone and done that? I'd be surprised if it was money problems, but at the end of the day people should be entitled to enjoying chocolate! And Mars is my favourite company so I'm disappointed.

To address Princess' point, I think they've only just started using rennet and haven't been using it until now, or at least that was my understanding of the post.

Some alternates to Mars

The Boost bar has glucose and so is the rival to Mars.

You can also go Fair Trade
