Labour-run local Croydon council goes Bust

This was on BBC1 London Local news
yesterday.

[Croydon Council becomes second council in two decades
to declare bankruptcy
The borough has imposed emergency spending
restrictions under a Section 114

Officials blamed the coronavirus crisis coupled
with 'a decade of austerity'
Last authority to use the order was
Northamptonshire County Council in 2018]

[Hamida Ali, Croydon Council's leader,
said yesterday: 'We need to be honest about the
fact that, for a number of reasons, the council is on
track to spend more than we have.
'The Covid-19 crisis and a decade of austerity
have had a major impact on our finances
but it's clear the council has also made mistakes,
and I am committed to fixing that.']

I think this will start to happen more regularly tbh.

a decade of austerity = FINANCIAL MISMANAGEMENT BY THE COUNCIL

:skull:

Sure that Council leader
does admit to errors

Tom4784 12-11-2020 03:18 PM

Most councils are struggling, if they don't get the right funding from the government then things like this are inevitable.

I bet the next one could also be Labour run.

Does it matter who they’re run by? Areas are struggling in a horrible time, politics really has nothing to do with it

Beso 12-11-2020 03:37 PM

Corona virus my arse...

That place has been heaving with shoppers and traffic since March.

It appears, some Labour Councils do not get on
with the Government

Beso 12-11-2020 04:03 PM

It also appears the economy rose by 8.5 percent from july to the 2nd of november.. it can only be bad money management by the local labour run council.

Tom4784 12-11-2020 04:35 PM

Would the people claiming it's due to bad management be doing so if it was a Tory council? I doubt it. This wouldn't even be a story if that was the case.

All councils are struggling, stop demonising one party while licking the boots of the government that have their heel on your throat.

That's one Labour council and then the Con one in Northamptonshire then.

They aren't likely to be the last sadly.

i don't think we can throw around blame in these times

It will be in someone's back pocket knowing that lot.

Beso 12-11-2020 05:41 PM

Why would corona effect a local councils cash anyway?

UserSince2005 12-11-2020 05:42 PM

money runs through labour pockets like water through a sieve haha
