School REMOVE toilet DOORS to punish students

Students returned to Range High School in Formby after their well-earnt Christmas break last week, to discover the doors of the boys’ toilets had been REMOVED by staff.

The drastic decision was not to prevent the spread of Covid, but would prevent ‘Anti Social Behaviour’ within the school and for a moment it looked like the bathroom door was a victim of it itself.

However it was later revealed by teachers that the measure had been taken as a ‘precaution’, with deputy head Tom Dolly arguing it ‘doesn’t compromise the boys’ privacy’

Meanwhile the girls’ toilet door remains in place.

Students claim the move has left them ‘uncomfortable’, as teachers, visitors, and other pupils, including those aged as young as 11 can ‘see’ and ‘hear in’.

Students refused to comment on the smell.

The school was recently rated ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED, and has improved on its 2 star status it received in 2017.

However it is no stranger to the limelight, having publicly REFUSED students due to ‘funding cuts’, been the site of an attempted KIDNAPPING, and had to send an 11 year old to HOSPITAL after she was attacked by a fellow student

What are your thoughts? Is this an appropriate decision?

I don't think taking away every male students privacy is the answer to anything really or an appropriate punishment. Was whatever anti social behavior that was happening actually happening in the Mens toilets or something?

Students refused to comment on the smell.:fist:

I suppose they couldn’t put a camera in

I was just thinking this , why don't they have CCTV put in a place that still gives the boys their privacy instead of removing a whole door which is drastic .

Not disclosed
But my guess is that it was something like vaping in there
And teachers can now see the fumes without having to go in

That wouldn't be a good enough reason imo but if they were using the men's toilets to attack other students then maybe? It's hard to actually answer when they've not really said what the issue with the toilets was

Well I’m pretty sure vaping is prohibited in school, might be different in Ireland
Obviously as not many Windows in toilets
So lack of ventilation for it to get out
Makes breathing for students a struggle
Especially those also wearing a mask

They vape in the toilet cos it’ll be the only place in school they know teachers won’t go
Attacks happen more publicly as it makes people look ‘hard’
It happened at my school
Vaping becomes an addiction and they have to do it each break and lunch

there are vape detectors available these days that do the same job as smoke detectors. Easy enough to fit a couple of them

I used to have a well timed toilet break with my girlfriend during double maths, when she was 3 doors up doing double english.

Did you take the backdoor to get there

To be fair in a school I worked at a while back didn't have toilet doors - it was like in some train stations or shopping centres, where there were archway things with the stalls and troughs a ways back.

Students at these school have however expressed their discomfort

The measure is a bit drastic really, considering the same hasn’t been done to the girls

The fact that it's only being done to the boys bathroom makes me think that there's something a little off here.:suspect:

But what’s cheaper for a school already affected by budget cuts:

Rip out a door
Or
Install costly vape detectors students can easily rip off the wall

The hardest part of the taws was opening the door on the way out of the room.
