Electric scooters

Do you have them in your town?

They've been in Bristol a while and I think they're fantastic. Traffic is awful in most of the city and public transport is crap so they're perfect for getting around distances of 2-3 miles. Google maps is great at giving navigation for them as well and it can take you through great shortcuts and beautiful areas away from the main roads

Don't think they're technically road legal unless you're in a city on the 'trial scheme' where you hire them on an app through one company. Lots of people do seem to ride private ones though in practice

Electric bikes are a great innovation as well, they seem to have exploded recently. My Mum has one now and uses it quite a lot having gone years without being able to do much exercise because of knee problems

Just looked it up and there's over 50 towns/cities in the UK where you can ride them atm but they're all in England

They should not be on the pavements, that's against the law!

Yes, “regular” bicycles as well. One of the reasons it’s so much more dangerous is that pedestrians will (generally) look before stepping out onto a road - but not when, say, stepping out of a garden gate or doorway onto a pavement. So they could literally step out in front of you with no warning. It’s still a metal object travelling at speed and can do plenty of damage, especially to a small child or elderly person (for the elderly any fall can be very serious).
