Water fast tips

Has anyone ever done a water fast? I want to try it. For 1-2 days then gradually increase the days. I bought some electrolytes to help during the fast but not sure how effective they are .

Has anyone got any tips for a successful water fast?

I do daily fasting but only food …. I drink water all day

Pretty sure we need to keep fluid levels up as dehydration is dangerous , even mild dehydration has a massively negative effect on our bodies.

Apparently if you are just 10% dehydrated you will only be able to work at 10% of your normal output .. so a 90% decrease in energy/power/stamina just from 10% dehydration

I saw a fact based prog that showed that you can do without food for TEN times longer than water ..

Unless of course - a water fast means you don’t eat food and just have water … in which case that’s fine and dandy

Yes that is what it means - if you go 2 days without water you're flirting with death. 3+ and you're just plain dead :joker:.

There's no real need to be doing something as drastic as water fasting unless you're trying to do something drastic like reverse type-2 diabetes.

It’s poorly worded then in my humble opinion
:)

There’s no need to include the word water .. just call it fasting as everyone knows what that means .

PS

It’s been proven that intermittent fasting CAN reverse diabetes ( only Type 2 though)

Yes water fast means water only. The recommended time is maximum three days. Anything beyond that is not recommended but I have seen people do 21 day water fast. No idea how they can achieve this. Unless they lie in their videos .

The 10% fact is interesting because for the past few days I've definitely been drinking less water and I can feel the difference.

You do intermittent fasting?

I just need to start a weightloss journey and I feel like a water fast will be a great detox and a great way to start if done properly.

I'm hearing so many good things about intermittent fast. It is a challenge though. I found it challenging to fast in the morning because I need my coffee and etc to start the day.

My last food of the day is usually a bowl of porridge at 10pm then nothing until 19 hours later .. 5pm

I start each day with a black coffee - no sugar obviously

Then water all day until I eat at 5pm

Seriously, a very bad idea. If you mess with your rhythm for taking water, it could affect you for the rest of your life

Again it's the wording BOTS - a water fast is having ONLY water, not having no water.

Anyway - I think I technically intermittent fast but not for any reason or deliberately at all. I tend not to eat breakfast so the first time I eat in a day is lunch at about 12.30. I rarely eat in the evening so the latest I eat is dinner which wouldn't often be later than 8. So by default, I guess I do 16/8 intermittent fasting .

I am however really bad at drinking enough water in general, I can't get into the habit and I reckon I'm slightly dehydrated about 80% of the time :joker:.

Interesting !

I like many started with 16/8 intermittent fasting but felt so good I figured I’d extend it and cut out lunch as well as breakfast.. anyways I felt amazing and I’ve done it for 8 years .. so many benefits

Just wish I’d started as a teenager .

Why do a water fast? Is it to lose weight?

It’s a stupid thing to call it as you still drink water you just don’t eat food for an extended time ( 16 to 19 hours daily)

I have no idea why they decided to name it a water fast

…I haven’t tried it or anything similar…(…but I think…)…what I would say is it’s never a one size fits all with any type of diet/eating plan like this ….I won’t list them, but there are side effects listed as well as any potential health positives and benefits etc…the pros and the cons of it all and whether it’s right for you etc..

…I would speak to a GP or diet/lifestyle consultant as the first thing…especially also as it would essentially involve ‘abstaining’ and abstaining can also mean depriving of essentials…which could lead to short or long term health issues…and things like age and general lifestyles and medication that might be being taken would all be things to figure as well with advice and your decision…?…

…you’re far, far too precious to not ask all of the right questions of the right people, CeeCee….just speak to a medical person/diet specialists and be sure it’s the way for you…

So you only eat porridge? How long have you been doing this and what are your energy levels like?

After I've given myself a jump start with the water fast I want to eventually start doing the 16/8 aswell. It's going to be hard to stop snacking after 8 though. It's part of my downtime and chill routine

Yes I've piled on the pounds thanks to being too comfortable working from home. :nono:

Ammi, you are probably right. I do know that right now my iron is very low so if I ask my GP he would probably not recommend doing it. I recently asked him about diet pills but instead he's sending me to an eating disorder clinic first. I don't have an eating disorder :bawling: I just want to lose weight and maintain a weight i'm satisfied with again :conf:

I have porridge around 10pm that’s my last meal until the following day at 5pm

My energy levels are through the roof from the moment I wake ( and have a black coffee ) .

Energy levels stay the same all throughout the day .

There’s no hills and valleys like you when you are eating meals and snacks all day

I eat around 2,200 calories each day between 5pm and 10pm
( it’s a five hour window)

Main ( big) meal at 5pm then a snack around 8pm and last meal at 10pm

I’ve done it for 8 years and feel fabulous

Not in any medication at all !!

You are basically filling up in the evening and for the first 12 hours ( including sleep) your body burns carbohydrates then after 12 hours your body starts burning fat ..

It takes about 4 days of going without breakfast before your body acclimatises to not getting food and then on around the 5th day onwards you won’t even want breakfast
