Can't Whooping Cough kill in some circumstances?

AnnieK 01-05-2024 08:54 PM

My friend has had it. Some are calling it the 100 day cough. Her husband also had it and was really quite ill.....he kept passing out through coughing

Its quite dangerous for babies/infants. Rarely for older kids or adults but it is very unpleasant.

Okay, thanks for the details.

I might have to be even more anti-social than even usual then.:joker:

One thing worth mentioning and why it's good to be aware that this is going on - it presents just like a basic normal cough for the first few weeks, plus, there are antibiotics tackle it but they ONLY work if you get them within the first 21 days of symptoms.

The result is that by the time people realise they don't just have a normal cough, it's too late for the antibiotics to work.

So...if you get a cough I'd say go to the GP and ask them to 1) take a swab and 2) prescribe the antibiotics anyway in the meantime.

It sounds really brutal.

Yes, it's a small minority, but as side effect it's way too dangerous. We have definitely been mislead. We have been told it's safe when it's not?

What does that have to do with a whooping cough outbreak?

user104658 10-05-2024 10:19 AM

It's waaay more than 3000 cases and not just England lol, I personally know 7 people who have it, it's blatantly all over Central Scotland currently.
