Christmas movies that aren't really Christmas movies but remind you of Christmas....
...because they're always on telly around Christmas time?
(sorry for the longest thread title ever) For me, Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Both with the excellent John Candy. I always thought Planes, Trains and Automobiles was a Christmas movie but i was online gaming with one of my American mates the other day, and she was like "you dumbass, it's a Thanksgiving movie" And it is, it just has such a Christmasy feel though. |

Or Silent Night, Deadly Night. Which is a brutal Christmas movie. It actually makes me feel quite uneasy watching. I watched it for the 3rd time, first time in years, the other day, and i was like "yeah, this might be a Christmas movie, but it's in no way a fun watch for a horror movie, or otherwise" Kinda like Trancers, which is my ultimate favourite B-Movie of all time, it's set around Christmas, has it's Christmasy moments, but doesn't at all feel like a Christmas film though. It's a fun little watch though |
The 1940s Flash Gordon series
Each year at Christmas in the last week as we could bring in games to play coz the lazy teachers went to the pub they wheeled in the big TV and we could watch Laurel and Hardy and Flash Gordon all day |
Brewster's Millions has Christmasy vibes too, though they don't show it around Christmas as much now. Another John Candy classic. John Candy could literally be Santa Claus, all these films he's in that that remind us of Christmas, and give the man the white beard, you'd think he was Santa himself. Jolly, fun, sweet and completely inoffensive

Sound of Music is aired at Christmas a lot. I once worked on the stageshow during Christmas time (Nov-Jan), so it encompassed a lot of the run up to, and hangover from, that Christmas.

E.T. was on council telly around Christmas every year in the early 90's when I was a kid, and thus always feels like a Christmas movie to me. We didn't have Sky, we was middle-class-poor like Rishi Sunak.

Wizards of Baking where they have to recreate all sorts of things from those movies, but then as cakes, pies, cookies, macarons |
…the Indiana Jones movies also because they’re often on at Christmas time, or used to be…also Back to the Future…also The Goonies and Princess Bride, I might have said that one already…I think it’s because they’re all great family movies and Christmas time is a big time of family movie watching….
