Indian or Thai?

What’s your favourite kind of restaurant between these-two?

Redway 22-07-2025 09:55 PM

I find Thai food to be a little more nuanced than Indian personally, in a pleasurable way, so it’ll have to be that for me. I’d rather eat out at a Thai restaurant than an Indian, even if Indian would naturally be the default takeaway-choice. People don’t really order Thai on a home-delivery basis. You’ve kinda gotta go out to eat it. That’s the implicit idea anyway, for better or worse.

It goes in one end as food and comes out the other end as waste

You will be making love to a pot noodle next with that nuanced crap

Yeah, okay, sheriff. No-one was even asking you, tbh. Just another one of your widely pointless, unnecessarily abrasive posts that you think set the tone for you being this unflinching hard man who ‘tells it how it is, without overthinking or appreciating depth and nuance.’ No-one’s going to be bowing down to you on this forum. Not me, not Livia, not anyone-else.

I like both.

But I have childhood memories with Indian food, plus they have Rogan Josh.

You've clearly never tried this beauty from South Korea.:flutter:

Have you ever actually ordered a Thai, out of interest?

I've had a Green Curry from the Chinese.

I've never had it from an authentic Thai place.

Yeah. That’s what I was pointing to in my OP. People don’t really order in Thai, not from a Thai restaurant specifically anyway (a bit of green or red Thai curry from your local Chinese, yeah), really, do they? It just doesn’t happen to be the done thing. It’s a more curated, intentional experience that you’ve got to go out to dine with specifically, at a specific kind of restaurant. It’s less mainstream than Indian.

Unfortunately my area doesn't really have many Thai Restaurants to go to, so I just take the next best option available to me.

We're finally getting Korean and Mexican food more mainstream where I live, which is great to see.

I’ve never really eaten much of Korean, to be fair. So I don’t know how that is.

How do you take to Thai, Kate?

caprimint 22-07-2025 11:51 PM

Indian by far

I've never tried it Red. Is it quite spicy? I'm not sure I'd like it, but maybe I'll give it a go if you say its decent.

Erm, in terms of spiciness, Thai food is generally a lot less-so than Indian, as far as I can tell. It’s quite mild in that regard, for what I know. I probably don’t know enough to say that for-sure, but that’s my guess. That’s the impression I get.

Ah yes, sounds OK to me. I've not really tried Indian either, I guess I'm not especially adventurous with food. I should try more things. I've been reading about a Thai dish called Pad Thai, that sounds fairly mild.

Yh, no, I’ve never had a Pad-Thai that’s been that spicy, to be fair.

I've only tried a little bit of Korean cuisine, things like their Pot Noodles, Korean Chicken, and Kimchi.

And I would say that if you like spicy foods then you'll be a big fan of Korean food.

Kimchi being the mildest in terms of spice levels.

Niamh. 23-07-2025 06:07 AM

Indian, its my favourite over all cuisine in fact

Benjamin 23-07-2025 06:48 AM

Love both if we’re talking authentic Indian/Thai food.

Another thing taking me to Wythenshawe this summer, besides barbecues. Talk of the devil.

You're coming to Wythenshawe?

I certainly am. I’ve got people to visit there anyway and, like I said, barbecues to attend this summer. The Thai stuff is just another driving factor.

There's a cute Thai cafe style restaurant in Northenden (next to Wythenshawe) called Kamin Thai. They do eat in or take away and its very lovely including Thai street food.
