Asthma

It's that time of year again when my asthma really kicks in and starts to affect my every day life, for example, I wake up and need to use it, if I take a walk outside I need to use it (if it's cold) or if I make some kind of sudden movement I sometimes need it. It makes me incredibly vulnerable to catching colds and 'flu, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Anybody else suffer from asthma, to what extent, and how do you cope during winter?

Billy 11-11-2007 10:28 AM

Meee, my asthmas been horrid recently, I've had like 4 asthma attacks since October

Z 11-11-2007 10:29 AM

Oh God, they're horrible aren't they? It's impossible to describe how scary they are, people tell you to relax and you're like, I can't! I can't feffing breathe!

Ruth*Star 11-11-2007 10:29 AM

I have it, during summer i was fine so i barely needed my Blue inhaler but now the colder weather is here i'm needing it more again, i'm sneezing alot and feeling cold alot.

Conor 11-11-2007 10:29 AM

Theres alot of people in my class with Asthma. Is it brought on by inhaling smoke or something?

xDramatick 11-11-2007 10:30 AM

I have it too.
I'm not badly affected by it, so I don't get too down around this time.

I do find I'm more likely to fall ill, or find it harder to breathe around this time.

Billy 11-11-2007 10:31 AM

And people go "do you want a glass of water" how the feck can I dirnk water if I can barely breathe lmao

my brother use to have Asthma, he got over it though. We had to sell our bird and dog when he first got it.

Ann 11-11-2007 10:34 AM

my nephew has this and he suffers really bad with it especially now he has an nebaliser to ease his Astma

Conor - it can be due to obesity, inhaling passive smoke/smoking or poor air quality. There are lots of different theories as to what causes it, but I think the aforementioned are probably most likely. I developed asthma when I was a baby, apparently because we were on a ferry to France and we were sitting next to a woman who was smoking through the whole trip. I think that's partially why I hate smoking so much, because I feel it's had a dramatic effect on my life and I don't think it's fair.

Ruth*Star 11-11-2007 10:36 AM

I've had it since i was about 3, I'm not sure what caused it, since i was fine up untill i went to nursery which is when i got it.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't sound very fair.

Nope! It's really humiliating as well, if you're playing sports and you have to take some time out to get your breath back and take your inhaler. It's not like anybody passes comment, they're all very understanding, but you still feel useless and ashamed to an extent because they're all fit and healthy and you need to take medication. I also find if I'm going into an asthma attack, the worst bit is the panic that I can't find my inhaler, only after that do I start to feel that I could quite realistically die because I can't breathe properly - which doesn't help calm me down at all.

Dan_ 11-11-2007 12:04 PM

I first got it when I was about 2/3 and was really bad up until the age of about 7/8 and used to have loads of asthma attacks, sometimes ended up in hospital to control it using a nebuliser.

There was one time at school when I was about 5 that I came close to dying, I kept telling the teacher I wasn't breathing properly but she thought I was just lying so I was just sitting there barely able to breathe for about 2 hours, luckily my mum was coming to collect me at lunch time.

If I get a cold now it's always much worse than a normal one as it goes straight into a chest infection.

Ross 11-11-2007 12:43 PM

I have it to, had it since I was about 4. I'm ill at the moment. It's horrible.

Conor 11-11-2007 12:56 PM

This sounds really terrible. I must be lucky I don't have it. I hope you all dont feel to down. :spin2:

I dont have Asthma thank god but my niece does and she has this round Asthma pump and i take it sometimes it gives you a buzz.

Legend 11-11-2007 02:01 PM

I've had it all my life. My last asthma attack was around March as I'd been sick in the day and that always triggers my asthma off and I was breathless all night and then woke up around 1 having an asthma attack so had to go to hospital and it was a chest infection that triggered it.

About 6 weeks ago I got a new inhaler which combines the blue inhaler and brown one and I've been fine since, I take it twice a day and I've not had a day where I have been bad since.

sometimes ,well all the time in winter actually, when i go out on the town i always get really breathless ,sometimes i have a full blown asthma attack.I think it must be to do with the dancing i do,the colda dn maybe the alcohol.I dont know, its very scary though and if im quite drunk then tend to panic more.

Is it safe for you to take it, after all, you dont have asthma.

supernoodles! 11-11-2007 02:05 PM

well your not supposed to use an inhailer if you dont have asthma so i doubt its ok to use the pump

No it's not, my brother takes mine some times and not only is it not safe, it wastes my inhaler that I might need when having an attack.

supernoodles! 11-11-2007 02:09 PM

it cant be very hygeinic either,i know you have to clean the inhailer but anyways.
