Laptop Help!

Rightso, I live with my bf the majority of the time and we have a shared laptop. He's gone to glastonbury [ahhh i really miss him :(] and I've popped back to my parents with it so it's safe and all that.
Ideally, I'd use that instead of this shitty computer but I can't get my internet to work. The laptop generally runs through wireless internet at the bf's, but at my parents we have an AOL modem, and I can't get it to work, though I REALLY don't want to install AOL on the laptop just for a few days [I'm only here 'till Saturday, I'm going back then]. There are loads of random wireless connections I can connect to but I assume they're all someone else's in the block of flats that my parents live in :|

Any ideas of how to get my internet working?
Help please. +k

Without connecting it wirelessly to your AOL modem, the only way it would work is if you tapped into someone else's connection, which isn't really acceptable. lol

As far as I know, you can only use the AOL Broadband if you install the AO-Hell software!

I'd just not bother if I were you, cuz even plugging an ethernet cable into it probably won't work. I think AO-Hell will always require the software.

Ask one of the neighbours for permission?

First try hard-wiring it in (ethernet cable), if that doesn't work just use one of the neighbours wireless signals if you are lucky enough to find one that is not security enabled. After all, what's wrong with nicking a little bit bandwidth. I bet they are not even using the connection anyway.

I personally wouldn't use someone else's internet, but if you're happy to go that way and they're dumb enough to not have it secured, then go ahead.

Switch it off and on again.

LOL MrLuvaLuva!

Thanks for the help, I don't really know what to do :S
I don't have an ethernet cable and there's no point installing AOL :\
I don't really wanna use my neighbours net either, might just have to stick with the comp.
