Unless you're going away for weeks on end then packing shouldn't take more than an hour at most so don't see the urgency. Plus what if you decide you want something a couple of days before you go and you've already packed it, might as well do it all in one go just before you leave

Even when going away to Uni for months I would just pack the say before I left or on the morning
