Yes to unsure but I also haven't bothered to read up on it at all. It doesn't sound like the most likely story but that makes sense for what it is. Most kidnap stories probably seem that way.
Plus the kidnap being a plan for exposure or whatever the goal would be is a biiiit more unlikely than the kidnap story itself...
