You don't want to believe that it's a thing and you're perfectly entitled to that ignorance. You can try to misrepresent what it is all you want but it won't change that it's not what you think it is.
I've never really heard anyone try to actually explain what it is, they just say "profiting off cultures you weren't born into is bad."

Why is it bad? All cultures are there for the taking, so if someone wants to shine a lot on them, why shouldn't they?
