Im not using that as justification per se just an interesting thought... The best players aren't always necessarily the most skilled players, some element of biology can come into it.
The inverse is true of power-lifting, the squat little chaps can often lift more than guys who are taller - simple physics/leverage.

I think its true in all sport that a specific body type dominates at a younger age. Tom Brady is exhibit A. A great QB at college level but a poor athlete in comparison to his age group and so is drafted way down the order.
At a young age coaches are looking for an athlete and not really for a technician.
