I can see how it's similar to opposition to immigration - in both cases a lot of people will have seen their areas transformed without feeling they had any say in it and without feeling any better off themselves. You're not that fussed about GDP figures if you're confronted with overcrowding and antisocial behaviour all the time and if the only jobs available are in hospitality - which few people dream of having a career in. Both tourism and immigration can enrich and benefit a place but it can also strain it
