In principle, I'm against the whole "an eye for an eye" philosophy, and therefore against the death penalty. However, I think that I'd have a very different perspective should one of my friends/family be murdered.

That said, a few years ago my cousin was stabbed to death. Do I wish the perpetrator to be sentenced to death? No. I could never forgive him for what he did, but I feel there's absolutely nothing to gain from that sort of punishment.

As for serial killers and psychopaths - I was watching Loose Women recently and there was the debate over whether or not the Yorkshire Ripper (I forget his real name) should be released. Anyway, I believe it was Lesley Garrett (on the show, not the yorkshire ripper lmao) who I was agreeing with most: we should look to learn from these sorts of people to see if we can build upon our knowledge of them, possibly preventing other examples in the future.

The attitude taken by the other two, who were just the typical "The Sun" readers loudly shouting "KILL 'EM, THEY'RE *******ING MONSTERS!!!!" is just as abhorrent as the murderers themselves.
