Assuming the Seathwaite gauge record of 314 mm in 24 h passes QC tests (against neighbouring sites, radar evidence etc), it will certainly take its
place as the largest 24 h rainfall reliably recorded by standard
methods anywhere in the British Isles since systematic recording
commenced 150 years ago, regardless of start time.
and there will be areas around there (higher up) that could have recorded up to 50% more
staggering
