As an Irish person here is my honest opinion on it. When an Irish person gets on one of these shows (X factor or BB) I always hope I will like them cos yeah I do want them to do well and they do, to a certain extent, represent the country in that particular show
but I never vote for them just because they're Irish. Me wanting them to be good and them actually being good are two different things. And I can honestly say, hand on heart, that the only time my favourite was an Irish person and I actually voted for that person was Brian Dowling from BB and that was because he genuinely was my favourite. I thought Mary was good and I'm glad she did so well but she wasn't my favourite and I didn't vote for her, in fact out of the people I know here in r/l none of them voted for her or had her as their favourite.
