Did you go and see The Hangover in the cinema Stu?
If you did - you would of witnessed the joy and happy atmosphere everyone in the theatre felt when Alan did something funny or something hilarious was said and everyone laughed together.
If you download the film - you're watching it by yourself, like a loner, most likely in bad quality - and you can't laugh because it's abit awkward.
