I find it very sad that there are people, like you, who don't know their rights as citizens of Great Britain. My advice to you as you advance in age is to become familiar with your rights lest you or your family find yourself in an unhappy situation similar to the Kings.
We only have to look back to the legacy of the disgraced and struck off the GMC register -Professor Sir Roy Meadows and his very disgraceful criminal behaviour and to the UK's own homegrown notorious as the "worlds most prolific serial killer" the Late Dr. Harold Shipman to know that we as patients need to ask for second opinions and not to treat doctors like Demi-gods.
Knowing your rights might not save you from bad doctors and bad medical decisions but it will mean you know where and when to complain.
I'm off to write to the GMC about the doctors mentioned by Mr. King. I know that anyone can complain to the GMC about any doctor if they believe they have done something to damage a patient, behaved disgracefully or brought the medical profession into disrepute.
BTW, the Kings are just well informed people interested in their child's health - they don't need a medical degree for that.
