Well i think the best thing to do is to increase the ban time, people aren't too bothered about being banned if it's only for a day, increase it to a week/two/ 30 days and they'll definitely tone it down
If you have a set system people will learn to follow the rules, If someones had a few infractions recently and they're not entirely sure how many points they are away from a ban, sometimes you can just get wound up enough and snap at members, leading to a higher point infraction and thus to a ban, which they wouldn't necessarily have got if they'd have known how many points they were going to get

Yes, I do understood what you're saying, longer bans may be something to think about but I mean you can see by this thread alone what we're dealing with
People are never going to be happy no matter what we do.
