There are a lot of people who audition who only do it for the experience; the majority, in fact. The show chooses fame-hungry people because it means that, if they get famous, they can say that Big Brother got them famous and the show will in turn get some exposure as well (more viewers).
Get how most of the housemates this year are half-famous? A lot of them already had fan bases prior to appearing on Big Brother. That means more viewers for the show because all the housemates' fanbases will be watching.
