I don't know about his mum, but if she is in prison then that would explain his anger towards women, this doesn't mean his behaviour was ok or acceptable because his behaviour was disgusting, yet there's a bigger part of me that feels sorry for him, because he genuinely seemed to have a lot of emotional pain. I think Janice reminds him of his mum and that's why he's been so horrid to her, and on top of that i feel he invested all of himself into a friendship with James, whereas in my opinion James has used him, James sees this as a game and has played it as a game, and Austin has fallen head first into an unrequited relationship and has not played the game at all, what i like about Austin is that what you see is what you get, he's a simple type of person who doesn't appear to have an agenda, on the other hand James has an agenda and he's always thinking, and watching and composing himself with the moral high ground, James is a sneak and not a person to trust.
