That's not the same thing at all. I do not think that a "large number" of the British public will (openly) physically or verbally attack asylum seekers.
I do think that the ever increasing post-Brexit anti-immigration sentiment and rhetoric will filter down into a more hateful population, and a population more accepting of hatred, in which the likelihood of people being attacked by the SMALL number of people inclined to do so will be increased.

I don't think so, I think the people who voted Brexit are made up of predominantly of the Doreen and Derek generation who have seen their communities change completely, or whose hip operations have, been cancelled for the 5th time who thought the NHS was going to be minted, People who got on board because of Boris, people who believe the DM, business owners who feel they can be stronger outside Europe, people who voted leave thinking it would never happen, an anti establishment vote, and finally far right voters, the majority of Brexiteers aren't going to give anyone a kicking, they might have a moan down the shops and come home and accept a curry from their neighbour not really putting two and two together that their neighbour is a person they voted to leave...
