That's not the same thing at all. I do not think that a "large number" of the British public will (openly) physically or verbally attack asylum seekers.

I do think that the ever increasing post-Brexit anti-immigration sentiment and rhetoric will filter down into a more hateful population, and a population more accepting of hatred, in which the likelihood of people being attacked by the SMALL number of people inclined to do so will be increased.
