Well, it's a bit complicated, but it's not about race, it's about cultural identity, and how, in Raph's case, multiple identities might shape his persona.
He has an advantage because they might fuse together, like a an alloy, into a kind of super-identity. So, Raph can be American, and strategise to win, and also be Japanese and feel the pleasure of Isabelle's victory. Japanese culture is very interesting. And yes, the Japanese are a distinct race, so for them, it is ALL about race - but not for me, and I hope not for you.
