That's not the issue. He had absolutely no right to interfere when she wasn't even aiming what she was saying at him. People like Nicola, Chloe, Stacy or Jessica make sense because Kim was directing her words at them. It's still a positive thing in his character to stand up for the people he cared about even if he might've went about it the wrong way.
However, I actually didn't see him do anything physically threatening, he was in another room and went into the room Kim was in and went to yell / yell back at her.
