I actually saw the reverse of your nan's situation. Where a man had Alzheimer's and during the period of deterioration his wife died. From that point forward he kept asking why his wife hadn't come to visit him, and his son told him repeatedly that she had died , so he experienced the grief multiple times. I've no idea why the son chose to answer him because he would have forgotten he had asked the question a few minutes later. I found it quite disturbing and distressing
