Why is the obvious pull factor for migrants of free housing, food, clothes, phones, spending money, along with a raft of freebies just carrying on unabated

Yes, this is absolutely the stepping stone to digital currency and probably to some kind of social credit score. It's interesting they've used the 'migrant crisis' as a reason and would make sense why the media has put a target on migrants backs... it's textbook manipulation: create a fear of something and then bring in the 'fix' to allow people to accept it.

My thinking is they would have done this during Covid but they underestimated how skeptical people became so quickly and knew it wouldn't pass. But the scaremongering about a Glastonbury field of migrants coming into the country in the last 6 years has done the trick.

Sorry, I mean it's done the trick stirring up unreasonable fear.

Yet again though they've underestimated just how against this kind of thing people are in the UK, regardless of the reason.

Oh I see, like literally I think Starmer thinks people are stupid, he cannot explain how it will stop the boats just faffed around talking absolute rubbish, the budget is going to be even trickier for them now if they raise taxes all hell will break loose

labour mp's themselves have said this is just the beginning, it will lead to all sorts of wonderful things. I even heard 1 mp say that google and facebook were capturing users data, why should the government be left behind

the id card is another method of large scale data collection. Saying other methods already exist so why complain isn't addressing the issue. Every data collection method brings new data to the table, it serves to complete the picture that the government has on everyone. It's also not sensible to only look at the implications now, it needs to be viewed in what could happen in 5 or 10 years down the line when systems are developed to take advantage of it

and I will point you to your post where you said it was just another piece of plastic in your wallet, you seemed super happy about it all

I wont be engaging any further with you back and forth on this, your post is there for all to read and people can make up their own minds

But still can’t find where I said I wanted it…

Probably for the best. Looks like you’ve embarrassed yourself for all to read.

Except for the part where everyone is against it and will vote him out come the next General Election.

Nobody wants to be like China or Russia if you're from a so-called democratic country, Labour will find that out come 2029.

Exactly, what's to stop them taking it to the next level?

Nobody should accept such a dystopian policy imo.

Petition against ID cards almost 2.2 million. Also put this in the 'Starmer's woes' thread, sorry for the duplication.

Yes he read the room completely incorrectly. Unsurprisingly. I feel like everything he implements is to win favour from voters rather than because he thinks it would be good for the country, which might not be the worst tactic if he could read the room but it still makes him inauthentic as ****.

…I honestly feel as though he’s not going to be the country leader for very long so might as well whizz himself up into some outrage controversy…at least it’ll be colourful than beige and give him something to chat about in interviews/books/whatever after his leadership time…I mean, if he wasn’t attracting social media/public chattering…(…for negative reasons…)…would we even know who the current PM was…

All the current leaders around the world surround themselves with yes "people" and thats why stupid stuff ends up being done. When I look back to Thatchers cabinet, they were all intellectuals with a mind of their own. It was only in the latter years that she started ignoring everone elses opinion, but power gets to them all eventually

…are they yes people or are they AI think tanks…maybe there is a ‘how to run a country for a week’ digital programme that has been adopted by current country leaders…
