X Factor jokers Jedward have dropped a huge clanger, saying malaria-hit Cheryl Cole will have a ‘big funeral’.
Their gaffe came in an interview with Mirror.co.uk’s sister website 3am.co.uk after we told them about the singer’s condition.
Cheryl has been seriously ill in hospital battling the killer disease she caught while on a romantic holiday with dancer Derek Hough.
In the interview, John begins by saying: “We’d better call her. It’s kind of crazy.”
But moments later, Edward, who tore his knee ligaments while performing on stage at T4 on the Beach at the weekend, added: “I’m like Cheryl’s twin because I hurt myself. She hurt herself. Two great people hurting themselves…
“It’s going to be a big funeral.”
When it was pointed out that his comment was “very inappropriate”, Edward quickly added: “Only messing.”
One Cheryl fan said: “How can Jedward say such a thing? Cheryl was one of their big fans during X Factor so to say something like this is unbelievable.”
A spokesman for Jedward said: “The boys would never mean any offence to anyone.
“Cheryl has been so good to them and I know they’re sending all their thoughts and sympathies to her.
“It was an ill-judged quip that was never meant to cause any offence.”
