Default (some) Christian protests over ‘transsexual Jesus’ play

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...esus-play.html

I shall be there with my "Careful Now" sign

"The play is part of the Glasgay! arts festival which celebrates Scotland's homosexual, lesbian, bi-sexual and transsexual culture. "

Not sure, but if your right, then that is one hundred per cent conclusive, scientific, tip top, flawless proof that those benders are out to get your kids.

What we need now is for some Catholic priests to stop them.

what I meant was, if it was, probably not a good idea to publicise the play.

I think somehow that three hundred angry Christians with homophobic placards may be doing a *teeney* bit to add to the publicity.

People like to protest and get out into the fresh air. And where do you get "homophobic" from apart from the usual - "does not agree with my view of homosexuality"?

Not seen the play, have read Romans.

I take it you actually have a point beyond backing yourself out of the corner I just put you in? You questioned where I got the homophobia insinuation from, and I pointed it out for you, in the very same article you posted. And that was about the extent of the argument. Problem solved. In other words :

End of story.

Yes, I do consider the Bible highly homophobic, but you are aware I was quoting the Telegraph, right? Not making an argument about the Bible?

Unless, of course, you can show me in which book the line "God: My Son Is Not A Pervert" is in the Bible?

I dont think that placard was a direct quote and was more a comment on the act of homosexuality as seen from a Biblical perspective - if I am getting into the mind of the person who held it up. I would see that one as more a problem with the theology behind the Trinity than homophobic.

Also, paraphrasing God is never a good idea.

The banner was drawing a direct contrast between being transgender, and being a pervert. No working around that.

I agree, paraphrasing God is a really bad idea. Just look at the Bible.

Which is precisely what you have done in opening this thread on this issue. LeatherTrumpet what are you trying to achieve? You are getting a reputation for stirring up trouble and causing arguments which are not productive. The book of Romans along with many other parts of the Bible does class homosexual behaviour as a sin, but there is a time and place for quoting them, but lets not forget 1 Corinthians 6 which shows that just because someone may have practiced this, they were not "beyond the pale"

ProbeEight you say you find the Bible homophobic because it has injunctions against homosexual behaviour, however you need to bear in mind that all the mono-theistic religions have this injunction in their sacred texts and adherents to those particular faith may criticise this behaviour only because it is in there, otherwise it might not be mentioned. Since religious faith is something held dear by people, blanket dismissal by use of words as "homophobic" is not helpful and may ignore other positive qualities they may have due to their chosen belief system.

Also if you believe LeatherTrumpet is being provocative, would be be better to not rise to the bait?

Hello Sticks

This is a debating forum and as such contentious issues are up for debate. I am attempting to get people to discuss issues like that play, to get alternative views - no point sweeping things under the carpet for fear of giving them (very limited, if any) publicity. You like to parachute into threads and pontificate and that is fine but i am not after your marks out of 10 really. Lastly I nailed my view in homosexuality early - love the person not the act and I stand by that.

"You are getting a reputation for stirring up trouble and causing arguments" - really- how do you actually come to that group view?

Right ... see ... the thing is Sticks, I don't really give a damn about any of that. I still think The Bible is highly homophobic. That is an opinion that is not really going to change. The entire books relevance to the modern world really is hanging on by a thread and the relevance of your somewhat abstract sounding argument to me is nil.

As for that last line, I agree with LeatherTrumpet. Forums are for debating and talking. Stop taking the thing so damn seriously.

So are many religious things, and not everyone is religious. And many other things people don't agree with. That's just the way capitalism works my friend.

i would doubt that if asked glasgow tax payers would be happy about the play

whereas spending money on religious things (like what?) would be well supported
