I don't get what the fuss is about.

I would not feel degraded if I was referred to as someone's partner instead of wife. Marriage is partnership.

Marriage is a partnership, and the term "partner" is usually used to refer to someone you're in a partnership with. Don't mind the term. Has to be better than what he usually calls me anyway.
