They have gotten better as they have gone along, really. Not a fan of Telephone though, mainly due to it's overuse in avatars and signatures.

Paparazzi & Bad Romance are benchmarks for where the pop sound is and where it's heading. I would almost call it futurist, like the early 80's bands like The Human League.
